10 Great Quotes About Organization

I’ve enjoyed putting these together for you, and I think you’ll find them interesting. Hopefully thought-provoking, too. They sure motivate me to get some hard work done around my house and in my life.

(Oh, and don’t forget to pin any of these organizational quotes to Pinterest if they speak to you!)

Quote 1

“If you want to improve your life immediately, clean out a closet. Often what we hold onto holds us back.” — Cheryl Richardson

Quote by Cheryl Richardson layered over a closet of muted-colored hanging shirts. The quote is meant to motivate and inspire you to create an organized home and declutter your spaces.

I like the truth behind this quote. It tells me that sometimes improving your quality of life is as simple as organizing one space. And not even a large space! There’s just something that feels healing about cleaning out a tangible space of the baggage that’s been weighing it down.

Quote 2

“Get rid of the clutter and you just might find that it was blocking the door you’ve been looking for.” — Katrina Mayer

Inspirational Quote about organization by Katrina Mayer layered over a dusty blue door (close up of the door). The quote is meant to motivate and inspire you to create an organized home and declutter your spaces.

Same story here as the first quote. Holding onto clutter can impede us from opening our minds and seeing new opportunities. Letting go of “all the stuff” can unlock your creativity.

Quote 3

“Look around. All that clutter used to be money.” — Unknown

Humorous Quote about organization by unknown, layered over a black calculator, pennies or coins, and paper money. The quote is meant to motivate and inspire you to create an organized home and declutter your spaces.

Ouch. So true, isn’t it? You bought it, or at least someone did, and now it’s collecting dust in your space. Play the “what if” game for a minute. What if we spent less of our money on stuff? What would that do to our bank accounts, to our spaces, and to the clarity of our minds?

Quote 4

“When you’re looking at what to bring into your home, or what to hold on to, there’s only one question you should ask: ‘Will this item help me to create the life and the home I want?’” — Peter Walsh

Quote by Peter Walsh about organization, overlaying a close up of blue flowers. The quote is meant to motivate and inspire you to create an organized home and declutter your spaces.

Yep. Great question. (Similar to what Marie Kondo suggests you ask yourself in her book, The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up.) Let’s be intentional about our stuff, friends. Visualize the life and home you want. What type of life and home would contribute to your peace and happiness, rather than challenge it? If you can actually envision that life and home, or at least the feeling it would create, then you can make wiser decisions about your stuff. Does your clutter contribute to that vision, or does it challenge it?

Quote 5

“A good system shortens the road to the goal.” — Orison Swett Marden

Organization Quote by Orison Swett Marden layered over a road lined with trees. The quote is meant to motivate and inspire you to create an organized home and declutter your spaces.

We waste so much time looking for things or reinventing the wheel with our processes. Adding organizational structures to our lives (like routines and an organized home), can really cut down on time and effort.

Quote 6

“Organization isn’t about perfection; it’s about efficiency, reducing stress and clutter, and unleashing your creativity!” — StampnStorage.com

Organization Quote by StampnStorage about releasing perfection. It's layered over a close up of file tabs within a drawer of files. The quote is meant to motivate and inspire you to create an organized home and declutter your spaces.

Yes! This is what I keep saying (and I’m sure you’ll hear me say it again). Organizing (and decorating!) is about loving your spaces, having fun with them, and cultivating peace and grace within not only your home but also in your overall life.

Quote 7

“For every minute spent organizing, an hour is earned.” — Benjamin Franklin

Practical Quote by Benjamin Franklin layered over a black and white image of a box of pencils and a stack of notebooks. The quote is meant to motivate and inspire you to create an organized home and declutter your spaces.

This is so accurate, don’t you think? If we were able to spend less time looking for things we’ve lost, we would have a ton more time on our hands. More than I think we even realize.

Quote 8

“Never organize what you can declutter.” — Home Storage Solutions 101

Quote by Home Storage Solutions 101, layered over a white desktop, a wadded up ball of paper trash and a stack of notebooks and paper. The quote is meant to motivate and inspire you to create an organized home and declutter your spaces.

I’ve been guilty of this and I’m trying to get better at it: decluttering instead of continually organizing the same things over and over. Because what you’re really doing is just shuffling your stuff on repeat, and that doesn’t serve your purpose. Instead, make your belongings work for you. Get rid of the stuff you don’t actually want or need and then you’ll have a whole lot less to organize! (And have to do it less often.)

Quote 9

“A place for everything, and everything in its place.” — Mrs. Beeton, The Book of Household Management

Organization Quote by Mrs. Beeton, from The Book of Household Management. It's layered over a white desktop of stuff, including gold paperclips, gold brads, gold tacks, an ipad or smartphone, a white journal, and a white pen and a gold pen. The picture is meant to symbolize clutter that takes up space and has no home in the house. The quote is meant to motivate and inspire you to create an organized home and declutter your spaces.

This saying may be used so much that it’s a bit cliche, but think about it for a minute. How true is it that everything in your home needs a place to live? If it doesn’t have a place to live, it’ll end up on the floor or in something else’s place to live. Causing… you guessed it… clutter. Look around your home at the stuff you are constantly shifting (or the pile of stuff in the corner that you’re avoiding). Could it be that stuff simply doesn’t have a proper home? Take intentional steps to give them homes today (or donate them so someone else can give them homes).

Quote 10

“Your home is your haven. Reduce clutter so you feel relaxed the minute you walk in the door.” — JoyandSpace.com

Inspirational Quote about Organization by JoyandSpace layered over a white living room, complete with a white sofa, blush pink pillows, a white teddy bear, a white rug, and cute primitive wall art framed in dark frames. The quote says your home is your haven, and it's meant to motivate and inspire you to create an organized home and declutter your spaces.

I wanted to end on this one because ultimately, regarding organization, isn’t this what we want to do–create a haven for ourselves and our family within our home? And if you still need a bit more time to process this idea, I wrote a whole post about the benefits of an organized home that you might find helpful.
